Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to announce the upcoming workshop:
Post-Atomic Formations: Dealing with the Legacies of Nuclear Power in Science, Society, and the Environment
Carl Friedrich von Siemens Stiftung, Munich - November 20-21, 2025
Organised by Sarah Ehlers (Munich) and Astrid Kirchhof (Munich)
The workshop explores the multifaceted legacies of nuclear power - one of the defining technologies of the 20th century. It asks what remains of nuclear energy today and what value its material and immaterial traces hold for contemporary societies. Despite renewed interest in nuclear power in some parts of the world, the social, environmental, and political consequences of its use remain urgent fields of inquiry.
Our aim is to bring together scholars from history, the social sciences, environmental studies, science and technology studies, and related fields to discuss the global dimensions of nuclear legacies. The program includes contributions that examine decommissioned sites, altered landscapes, risk and radiation research, as well as social movements and political debates surrounding nuclear technologies.
Guests are warmly welcome. We kindly ask that all participants register in advance: forschungsinstitut at deutsches-museum.de<mailto:forschungsinstitut at deutsches-museum.de>.
Supported by the Leibniz Research Alliance "Value of the Past" and the Carl Friedrich von Siemens Stiftung.
